Garnbret gets comeback win

Olympic champion Janja Garnbret (SLO) was again number one on her comeback in the World Cup.

The big winner for women is Janja Garnbrent (SLO). The Olympic champion won the lead final at the IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck 2022 and prevailed over Chaehyun Seo (KOR/27+) and Brooke Raboutou (USA/27+).

“I always enjoy coming to Innsbruck, the atmosphere here is always special and the venue is perfect. It's good that the fans are back. The route was tough from the start, but I like it best that way,” said Garnbret, who celebrated her World Cup comeback after a break of several months.

For local hero Jessica Pilz, the final was over before it had really started. The Lower Austrian slipped her foot on the eighth grip and ended up in eighth place. "I have the feeling that I didn't climb at all, it was over so quickly. You could tell from the back that it was fast and that the route was tricky, but I didn't even get to the tricky spots. I would have liked to have climbed even further,” sighs the 2018 lead world champion.

The start of the season in the lead with tops in both qualifying routes and in the semifinals is satisfactory overall. “The result is disappointing, but I have to check it off. I showed that I'm in good form in qualifying and in the semifinals. This is annoying, but it can happen.”
