Garnbret casts a spell over Innsbruck

When the Innsbruck Climbing Center turns into a cauldron of energy, it can mean only one thing.

World Cup time. And during the boulder finals of the IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025, the atmosphere was once again electrifying. A sold-out venue, cheering fans, and top-tier entertainment. Even without an Austrian climber in the final, the crowd kept the energy sky-high – especially for one athlete: Janja Garnbret.

“A sold-out arena, a sensational performance from the athletes. Our sport was showcased in all its beauty. It was truly impressive and just cool – for the fans lucky enough to witness moments like these. One thing is clear: anyone who experienced this felt the authenticity up close. Once again, we’ve proven that we set the international benchmark in the World Cup,” said KVÖ Sports Director Heiko Wilhelm.

Once again, the Slovenian superstar proved why she’s considered the gold standard in climbing. In her first bouldering competition of the season, the two-time Olympic champion claimed her fourth Innsbruck bouldering victory – a feat no other athlete has matched. Four tops, 99.3 points, pure dominance. Garnbret climbed with all her usual grace and composure, as if she’d never taken a break.

“I love Innsbruck and this special atmosphere here. The final was amazing – a real highlight. The qualification and semifinals were anything but easy, but now I was fully present and could enjoy every single boulder. I love coming back here every year – the spirit is just unique. Now I’m excited to try the same in lead. My goal: to enjoy it and take in everything the moment has to offer,” said the Slovenian with a radiant smile at the awards ceremony.

Oriane Bertone from France secured second place with 69.8 points, earning not only the silver medal but also sealing the overall bouldering World Cup title for 2025 – an impressive achievement for the young French climber, who consistently ranked among the world’s best this season.

Anon Matsufuji of Japan rounded out the podium with 59.5 points. She displayed nerves of steel and creative movement, earning a well-deserved third place.

And then, as the lights in the climbing center spotlighted the winner one last time, came the moment the crowd had been waiting for: Janja Garnbret, beaming as always, sent a symbolic heart, a kiss, and her unmistakable smile into the crowd. For many, it was just another World Cup event – for the fans in Innsbruck, it was a celebration. And for 48-time World Cup winner Janja Garnbret?
It was almost like a home game.
